Description

Here is an early book illustrated by W.W. Denslow of Wizard of Oz fame: An Arkansas Planter by Opie Read. Copyright 1896, Rand McNally & Co., slightly later binding with a simplified cover design. This is the first of Den’s McNally books that I’ve seen with a dust jacket! Cover and illustrations by WW Denslow and Ike Morgan (who also illustrated the rare Woggle-bug Book).
This book is an interesting example of how Denslow’s work progressed and how he really came into his own when creating characters for children’s books like Father Goose and the Wizard of Oz. The line drawings in this book are nice, but not really that special. However, still a must for any Denslow collector!

This book is in near very good condition with a little discoloration to spine edge and a light streak on cover. Binding is tight. Blank front endpaper has a crease and a small fore-edge tear. Other pages in very good condition. Jacket is fair only, with substantial loss and chipping as shown.
