Description
Here is a first edition, first printing of “The Hungry Tiger of Oz”. Written by Ruth Plumly Thompson, published by Reilly & Lee in 1926. With 12 color plates by John R. Neill and also illustrated endpapers. Plates coated only on the printed side, as called for in The Book Collector’s Guide to L. Frank Baum. The book also shows undamaged type on p. 21 and p. 252, so also one of the earliest copies off the press. This is one of my favorite Oz books.
The book is overall in very good condition. The front pastedown has light soiling; the spine and rear cover are very clean. Inside, the hinges are intact, but there is a former owner’s names in pencil on front endpaper and Book Belongs To page (with some erasures), and a large chip out of corner of rear endpaper. All 12 plates are present; all in excellent condition except for the last one that has a small nick at the top. Slight corner bumping to some pages, but overall pages in quite good condition. Enjoy this hard to find first!
