Description

Here is another fabulous item related to Wizard of Oz illustrator W. W. Denslow. This is a bound volume of a scarce magazine called The Inland Printer, with 6 issues running from October 1893 to May 1894. What makes this Oz-worthy is the Jan, 1894 issues, which features a extensive article on Denslow on p. 316-317, with a photo of Denslow himself as well as lots of small examples of his art. Of course, this was well before his work with L Frank Baum on the Wonderful Wizard of Oz, which makes it even more interesting. The write-up includes the iconic story of Denslow and his friend Charlie Waldron painting advertisements from Wing’s Pills on a cow in a pasture.

The 6 issues are bound in nice marbled boards and 3/4 leather, without the magazine covers. Also includes many interesting articles and advertisements, including beautiful color ads for the Ault & Wiborg printing inks, some designed by famous artists. These ads sell very well on their own as well. Bound size is 9 1/4″ by 12 1/4″ and in good condition, tightly bound with moderate wear with some scuffing to endpaper edges.
