| Extremely rare and early (1887) item illustrated by W W Denslow, illustrator of The Wonderful Wizard of Oz book. This “Semi-Centennial Sun” brochure to celebrate the 50-year anniversary of the Baltimore Sun newspaper. Unsigned, but known to be by Denslow due to its presence in a private collection of items of material originally owned by Denslow himself. The owl and lettering is in his style. The bifold piece measures 6″x9″ and was originally folded again and inserted in a decorated envelope, which is not included. The piece is in fair condition only, with some tearing along fold lines and heavy staining to interior as shown. The only one I have ever seen in 17 years of collecting and dealing in Denslow, save for the one in the private collection. |
