Description

Here is an original edition of “As It Seems To Me; Being some Philistine Essays Concerning Several Things by Elbert Hubbard. Printed in 1898 by the Roycroft Shop (Roycrofters) in East Aurora, New York. The book has a tan suede cover, and gold and tan patterned endpapers. One of the book type that the Roycrofters sometimes called “window washers” due to their similarities to chamois cloths. It has a nice photogravure frontispiece of Hubbard and a couple simple ornaments (anchor with dolphin, crown) that are likely by WW Denslow (similar to ones used in other Roycroft books he designed).

Book is in good only condition. The exterior suede cover is rubbed and slightly stained, and with tears and top and bottom of spine is torn with a little bit of loss to leather at top. Inside, the hinges are partially cracked, and there is a period bookplate on the copyright page. Silk bookmark present but worn and detached. The pages are all attached and in very good condition. A hard to find Roycroft title.
