Description

Oz auctioneer, bibliophile and illustrator Dick Martin drew other things not related to Oz. This includes a gig he had for a greeting card company in the 50s, where he designed a great variety of comic cards. Martin’s art is bold, colorful and his humor is quirky and sly.  I’ll been collecting these for a while, have some duplicates and so have decided to offer them at $12 each. So the price is for your choice of one of the cards shown in the images. If you want more than one, just change the cart quantity at checkout. Then, specify which cards you want in the comments section, based on the descriptions in the last paragraph. Most are not unused and do not come with envelopes. Inside, there is usually a gag line. This is an updated listing with new photos, because the old one was getting a little confusing as some of the cards were sold.

The 10 cards shown in the first photo and the additional four in the 2nd, 3rd and 4th photos all have Martin’s DM initials somewhere on the front, inside or back of card, sometimes hidden within the art. The 5th-9th photos show details of some of these signed cards. The batch of 4 cards shown in last two photos don’t have his initials, but are by the same company and era, are in Martin’s style and have writing characteristics just like the signed ones. So I’m nearly positive he drew these as well. For more information on Martin and a mention of the cards, please see http://hungrytigerpress.blogspot.com/2015/11/dick-martin-and-me.html.

Cards signed DM include “Relatives”, “Feel So Hot” baby,  “I Love You” raccoon, Birthday poodle, “Birthday Greetings”, “Sweet Young Thing”, “Woiking Goil”, “So you’re having a baby” woman (small tear on front), “Marilyn”, “Simply Wild” Caveman, Viking Woman, Get Well Kisses, “Dear Valentine”, and “Getting Married” .  Unsigned cards include “Happy Birthday” Card Shark, “Whole Gang” get well message, “Valentine Greetings” rabbit, and “On your birthday” Woman.  Please specify which title you want in the Order Notes box at the bottom of Checkout.
