Description
Here is a rare, collectible copy of the Life and Adventures of Santa Claus, one of L. Frank Baum’s earliest books. Many different editions of this book exist, but this is the most desirable. Not only is this the Bowen-Merrill 1902 first edition, but also a first printing complete with all 20 color plates by Mary Cowles Clark! Much less common than the 12-plate later printing, and very difficult to find in complete, decent condition. Section Headings are Book First, Book Second, Book Third (as opposed to 2nd’s Youth, Manhood and Old Age).
This book is in beautiful, very good plus condition. The exterior is incredible–bright and unmarred, with the white stamping, so often worn, almost perfect. Spine is still clean and and lettering clear. Inside, the front hinge has been very neatly repaired and the rear one has a very slight splitting starting, but is tight and the endpapers are clean. There appears to be one blank endpaper excised, possibly with former owner’s inscription. The other pages are in wonderful condition, clean and tight. All 20 color plates are ipresent, intact and in great condition as well.
