Description
Here is a first edition, fourth printing of the Marvelous Land of Oz, copyright 1904, ca. 1914 according to the Book Collector’s Guide to L Frank Baum. While the title on the cover has been shortened to “The Land of Oz” and the title page is typeset, the book is still published by Reilly & Britton, and has a full 16 amazing color plates by John R Neill. Binding E with red cloth and a blank rear cover.
The condition of the book is very good overall. The front cover and spine are slightly dirtry, silver lettering and graphics are still nice, with a little corner wear. Inside, both hinges are intact, binding is tight and the illustrated green endpapers are in nice condition with former bookseller’s pencil notation on the back one. There is an inscription and old price in pencil on back of frontispiece, light finger soiling to early pages. All 16 color plates are present and in nice condition except for one that have been reattached with edge wear and soiling. Pages are quite clean with just a 1/4″ closed tear at top of one noted. A very nice, collectible early Baum.
