Description
Here is The Wizard of Oz in the hardest to find Roycraft dust jacket, issued for a very short period. In about 1959, just eleven of the Oz books were issued in special dust jackets designed by Roland Roycraft. These were only in production for a few years before being replaced by the “white cover” editions without dust jackets, which are more common. In the case of The Wizard, the odd Roycraft jacket was in production for even less time before being replaced by a jacket by Dick Martin in 1960. Thus its rarity. The book was written by L Frank Baum and published by Reilly & Lee; this version copyright 1956. Green cloth and red illustrations by Dale Ulrey; jacket lists to Hidden Valley of Oz, as do all the Roycraft jackets. The illustrations by Ulrey are also very nice, with the Wizard in different poses inside the initials at the chapter headings.
Book is in very good plus condition, with clean exterior cloth, light fa ding to spine edges. Inside, the hinges are tight and the endpapers have a little age toning. The interior pages are excellent, clean with no writing or tears. The jacket is very good plus, complete and not price-clipped, with some fading of spine color and light edge wear. None others available online at the time of listing.
