Description
Here is “The Silver Princess in Oz”, one of the Oz books written by Ruth Plumly Thompson, copyright 1938 by Reilly & Lee. This printing circa 1940’s, with 32-page gatherings and without Handy Mandy on the spine. red cover lettering and blank endpapers. As a post-1935 publication, this never had color plates, but has the color pastedown on the cover. In addition, in this copy, a prior owner has neatly inked the title with silver ink, as an embellishment.
Condition of the exterior cloth, spine and pastedown are very good, with a little cock to spine and light edge wear. Inside, there are erasure marks to the front endpaper with some abrasion to the paper, and the rear hinge is cracked with mull (webbing) showing, and some darkening suggesting there was once tape there. It’s holding fine on its own. The Book Belongs To page has a pencil name/address and there is also a gift inscription in pencil opposite. Otherwise pages are in nice shape with no significant tears or odor. A fair to good copy of a collectible Thompson title.
