An early copy of The Land of Oz by L Frank Baum, with an unusual tan cover embellished in black and silver and The Reilly & Britton Co on the spine. According to the Book Collector’s Guide to Baum, this Binding F with the Reilly & Britton imprint was used between 1917-1918 , and then briefly ca. 1919 by Reilly & Lee before giving way to the pastedown cover versions. Also has beautiful green Montgomery & Stone endpapers and 12 full color plates by John R Neill.
Condition is very good minus, with binding in good shape but the cloth dirty as shown, and a scratch on rear cover. Very light fraying starting at spine ends. Endpapers in nice shape, binding starting to separate a little between free endpaper and frontis. Tiny tear base of Author’s Note; pages are generally clean, and all 12 color plates are present and in very good condition.
