Description

Here is a 1st edition, 1st printing of the Royal Book of Oz, published in 1921 by Reilly & Lee. This printing has 12 color plates by John R. Neill, with the plate opposite page 255 having a misprint–“SCARECORW’S” in the caption (see Bibliographia Oziana or The Book Collector’s Guide to Baum). Gray cloth with pictorial endpapers. First Oz book written by Ruth Plumly Thompson, although originally credited to L. Frank Baum!

Condition is good plus but not very good. The cover pastedown has some small scuffs, with wear to corner cloth. The spine and rear cover look good with a small split to cloth at base of spine. Inside, both hinges are cracked with the mull showing, and the front endpaper has a long (3 1/2″) closed tear near the gutter. All 12 color plates are attached and are in very good shape. Book Belongs To page is blank. The rest of the pages are in good shape with light wear and occasional soiling. Overall a decent copy of a hard-to-find Thomspon first with all the color plates.
