Description

Here is a 1st edition, 1st printing of “Dorothy and the Wizard in Oz”, fourth of the Oz books written by L Frank Baum, published in 1908 by Reilly & Britton. This has the ads in the front listing The Land of Oz, Ozma of Oz and John Dough, making it a 1st printing according to the Book Collector’s Guide to L Frank Baum, in Binding B. With 16 incredible color plates by John R Neill (black captions as called for in 1st printing)!

Book is complete, but has some flaws. Gold cover pastedown has some scuffing, and there is a small ding on upper boad edge. The spine cloth is rubbed along the top and bottom, with a little fraying starting. Back cover is a little dirty. Inside, hinges are both cracked messily, and the rear one is badly split (see photo), but holding. Faint pencil name on front endpaper. Some pages have light to heavy finger soiling. All 16 full-color plates are present and in generally nice condition. Not a perfect copy by any means, but still a hard to find 1st to fill that hole in your collection.
