Here is one of Elbert Hubbard’s earliest books, Little Journeys to the Home of Famous Women. This nice blue and gilt copy of was published by Putnam and Sons in 1897, before Hubbard was regularly producing his own books through the Roycrofters. The book itself is 4.5″ by 7″ and 429 numbered pages. It appears to be a first edition, as the ads in the back are for Little Journeys from 1895, 1896 and 1897. The Little Journeys for 1898 are listed and it is noted that “they WILL form the series of Little Journeys for the year of 1898”.
Book is in excellent, near fine condition, with a nice blue cloth cover with heavy gilt design. Interior has a tight binding, booksellers notation in pencil on rear endpaper and former owner’s name in pen on front endpaper. There are several tissue-guarded plates of the women that are also in great condition.
