Description
Here is the classic Black Beauty, wonderfully illustrated by Wizard of Oz illustrator John R. Neill. Copyright 1908 by Reilly & Britton, this is the later (post 1919) Reilly and Lee printing. Volume IV of the rare Children’s Own Book series With the story of The Little Lame Prince in the back. Contains lavish color endpapers, a color title page and frontispiece, and color illustrations on many of the 58 numbered pages. Also includes an ad for “The Famous Oz Books” at the back through Lost King in Oz, dating it to about 1925. These are a fun series to collect.
The book is in very good condition. Cover illustration has light soiling and a small nick at right. Spine and rear cover are pretty clean. Inside, the binding is tight with a tiny bit of splitting starting to the hinge paper as is very common with this series. The illustrated endpapers and Book Belongs To page are clean and unmarred, as are the interior pages, which are very nice with one dog-eared page.
