Description
This article from the Sept, 1899 Cosmopolitan is a beautiful example of Denslow’s early work, so different from what he created for The Wonderful Wizard of Oz in the same year. Written by Charles Warren Stoddard, profusely illustrated with 11 black and white mostly landscape images by Den, with evocative names such as “The Indian Funeral”, “A Profile Rock”, and “The Grand Portal”. Beautiful even in small printed format–the original line drawings must have been fabulous. The photos don’t do justice to the fine detail actually present. All signed with Denslow and his seahorse. Article only removed from the original magazine, so disbound.
