Description

Here are two original Victorian trade cards that I believe are by Oz illustrator W W Denslow. The cards are signed with an 1882 George M Hayes lithographer’s mark, and Denslow was known to work for Hayes during this period (Greene & Hearn, p. 14). Also see my article in the Spring 2015 Baum Bugle for more info on Denslow’s trade cards. The cards are two of a set of four that depict a “Bohemian artist” with wild hair and a huge mustache (sound familiar?) painting a woman with pets causing havock in the background. Both in good condition with light staining and blank backs.
