Description

Here’s a rare early sheet music piece from the Wizard of Oz stageplay, “When the Circus Comes to Town, The New Song Hit of the Wizard of Oz”. Published on May 10, 1903 by permission of Sol Bloom as a supplement to the San Francisco Examiner. Extremely fragile as it’s on old newsprint. Four pages including covers. Beautiful color cover with a little girl looking into a circus tent with an inset of Lotta Faust, who played Dorothy in the play. There is an artist’s signature, H B Eddy(?) at the bottom left.

What is really interesting is that this piece was issued in two different color schemes for different newspapers, this one, with the red and olive green printing, and another one, with black and orange ink, shown in the last image. I’m listing both color schemes at this time, as separate listings. Make sure you have both in your collection!

In good condition considering its fragility–front cover quite nice, with edge tears not affecting printed portion. Spine intact. Age browning but otherwise the graphics are in excellent shape with no writing or staining.
