Description
Here are 2 unusual early trade cards illustrated by Wizard of Oz book illustrator W W Denslow. One pictures a boy (or girl?) riding a giant fly or wasp, and the other shows a child in armor fighting a giant. Two of a set of four by Denslow (see Spring 2015 Baum Bugle p. 50). The bee card features the overlapping B&H mark of Baker & Hayes used on others of his cards and advertises Price & Knickerbocker, while the .other just has the Hayes H mark and advertises Queen Table Syrup on the back. Original vintage cards, ca. 1884.
One card looks to have been removed from an album on the back.
Please check out the “Oz Illustrators” section in my Ebay store for other unusual Denslow items.
