Description

Walt Disney studio dye transfer print of Aurora from Sleeping Beauty, hand signed with a Walt Disney autograph by Disney Legend and authorized Disney signer Bob Moore. These high quality prints were given away by the studio for publicity and as gifts. Framed and in the original studio mat with blueish grey crayon to match the artwork, boldly signed “To Mary, With Best Wishes – Walt Disney”. Mary was a child with Downs Syndrome and the piece is from her family’s California estate. Circa 1950s to 1960s. Measures about 16”x20” framed with sight-size 9”x12”.

Bob Moore joined Disney as an apprentice in 1940, helped animate Dumbo and other cartoons as well as Navy training films during WWII. Later, he became Disney’s creative director of advertising, designed a Walt Disney postage stamp, and is probably best known as an alternate signer of Walt’s autograph on photos or when we was unavailable to sign artwork. Bob retired in 1983 and was named a “Disney Legend” in 1996.

The piece was informally authenticated via email as signed by Bob Moore by Disney autograph expert Phil Sears, the world’s only autograph dealer specializing in Walt Disney autographed items:  “I have reviewed the image you provided of the “Walt Disney” signature on the Briar Rose/Sleeping Beauty dye transfer print.  Unfortunately the piece is signed by Disney Studio publicity artist Bob Moore, not by Walt Disney personally.  This was common practice at the Disney Studio.  Dye transfer prints were not sold at Disneyland, but sent from the studio as as gifts and promotional items.  Some were signed personally by Walt Disney, but when he was not available Bob Moore would sign on his behalf…While I don’t buy these, they are still highly collectible”.

In very good condition with light wear to wooden frame and some tearing to dust cover on back.
