Description
Here is one of the most desirable of L. Frank Baum’s non-Oz books, The Sea Fairies. Published in 1911 by Reilly & Britton, this is a first edition, 1st printing with Binding A (the three faces on the front cover–reference: The Book Collector’s Guide to Baum). Five Oz books and John Dough and the Cherub in the publisher’s advertisement in front. Color illustrated endpapers, 12 amazing color plates by John R. Neill with iridescent ink.
Condition is good but not very good, with some loss andn scuffing to pastedown, and spine faded and worn at the ends. There’s also a stain on the fore-edge as shown. Inside, the front hinge is about half cracked, and the rear hinge has been reglued rather messily. Book Belongs to page is blank save for a bookseller’s pencil notations; the binding is also cracked at that page, but holding. All 12 color plates are present and in nice condition except the frontis has some foxing. The pages are generally clean with some age toning and minor wear.
