Here’s an unusual L. Frank Baum book: one of the Oz-man Tales–The Yellow Hen. First published as a series of 4 “Snuggle-Tales” books by Reilly & Britton in 1916, these were re-issued with additional color plates as the “Oz-man Tales” by Reilly & Lee. This book has a color frontispiece and 3 other full-page color illustrations, plus black and white illustrations, by John R Neill.
These early paper-covered books are fragile and hard to find in nice condition; this one is not perfect, but better than most. The cover is super clean, and the spine, as usual, is a little worn and has lost some of the paper on the ends. Corner wear, and rear cover is clean. Inside, there is a neat 1925 inscription on the ownership page. Hinges are intact. The four plates are all present –the frontispiece is detached. The other plates and pages are clean and nice except for browning opposite color plates, which is typical for this series.
