Description

Here is one of the rarest of all children’s books: Mother Goose in Prose by Wizard of Oz author L. Frank Baum. This book is doubly collectible because of the unusual illustrations by Maxfield Parrish. Originally copyright 1897 by Way and Williams, this is the 1st Bobbs-Merrill printing of 1905. With a very cute goose cover and 13 inserted plates by Parrish in sepia, as published. There are 12 listed in the List of Illustrations, but the title page is illustrated and is considered a plate as well. A lavish production.

Condition is good to good+, but not very good. Cover with some loss to white color, spine a little worn, small tear top of rear hinge (inside), endpapers and pages a little grubby with some staining to edge of text block as shown, one page with a closed tear, The frontis and additional 12 plates there and pretty nice overall.
