Description
Here is a rare find: one of the Aunt Jane’s Nieces series with intact dust jacket! Aunt Jane’s Nieces and Uncle John is sixth of the series for girls written by L. Frank Baum (Wizard of Oz author) under the Edith Van Dyne pseudonym. Copyright 1911 by Reilly & Britton, this is a later, Reilly & Lee printing with the bow instead of the oval color illustration on cover, and the B&W frontispiece, ca. 1920. The dust jacket retains the oval decoration and the flap lists to Mary Louise Adopts a Soldier. According to the Book Collector’s Guide to Baum, this corresponds to the earliest Reilly & Lee printing.
The book is in very good condition, with super clean exterior, tight hinges and binding. Pages clean but age-toned; frontis is nice.
The jacket is good plus, with both flaps attached, light chipping at top of spine, couple of closed tears and some age toning. Still very attractive, and very hard to find!
