Description

Here is a very early copy of Ozma of Oz, published by the original firm, Reilly & Britton. The third Oz book written by L. Frank Baum, copyright 1907. According to the Book Collector’s Guide to Baum, this is a first edition, 1st printing, with ads in the back listing only 2 titles, Binding A, with all caps on the spine. The O in Ozma is present on p. 11, line 5, indicating it’s one of the very earliest copies of the 1st printing! With a beautiful cover stamped in black, red, blue and yellow and the rear with the Lion, tiger and hen within the Oz monogram. Filled with magical color illustrations by John R. Neill.

Book is in good condition overall, with some flaws: clean cover, some writing on spine and rear cover, wear to corner cloth. Inside, endpapers are intact with some writing at top, little “Donald” has written his name on multiple endpapers, as well as a pencil scribble on the advertisement page. The ownership page has some tearing along the gutter, and the gatherings are somewhat loose but holding. Early pages with some finger soiling but are mostly clean and pretty. A decent copy of the rare 1st printing, with comparable copies starting at $450 on Abebooks.com.
