Description
Here’s a nice early copy of The Land of Oz by L Frank Baum, with an unusual tan cover embellished in black and silver. According to the Book Collector’s Guide to Baum, this is the 1st edition, 5th printing by Reilly & Britton, ca. 1917-1918 (copyright 1904). With 12 full color plates by John R Neill and green Montgomery and Stone endpapers. Condition is good plus, with the main flaw being 4 pieces of horizontal clear tape inside on the front hinge. Outside, the cover is beautiful and the spine has some soiling in the rear gutter, and the rear cover is clean. Inside, along with the front hinge tape, the rear hinge is split, but holding. Two 1918 inscriptions and an old price on the endpapers. All 12 color plates are present and in nice condition except for one has a 1″ tear at left top. The text pages are overall in very good condition with occasional soiling. An attractive copy of a hard to find Land printing.
