Description
This is one of the harder to find non-Oz books illustrated by John R Neill: The Bride Her Wedding Book, published in 1914 by Reilly & Britton (Chicago). These were published in a few different binding styles; this one a grey cloth hardcover (other bindings are a cream cloth hardcover, a padded paper hardcover, and I believe a softcover edition; all notoriously hard to find!) Oz Enthusiast Bill Campbell calls this “One of John R. Neill’s loveliest creations”. https://theozenthusiast.blogspot.com/2015/04/brides-book.html The book has about 50 pages and elegant rose-design free endpapers. This particular book also comes with a laid-in Marriage Certificate, that I haven’t seen with other copies, but also looks to be designed by Neill.
This was meant to be used as a record of a bride’s courtship and marriage, and is profusely illustrated by Neill. There is also a space for a Family Tree in the back. This particular book has some silverfish damage to spine, covers and rear endpaper, a pencil inscription on front endpaper, tight binding, and beautiful clean pages.
