Description

Here is a rare copy of Yellow Knight of Oz, the Copp Clark (Canadian) first edition book. Oz experts know that Copp-Clark published many of the Oz books simultaneously with the first editions of Reilly & Britton and Reilly & Lee, and that fewer were published than the American editions. See “Oz in Canada” reference book for more information, where C. J. Hinke says, “Collectors of Oz books have long recognized that Copp Clark copies are very scarce”. This book is a first edition, first printing, with the Copp Clark imprint on both the spine and the title page. Copyright 1929, written by Ruth Plumly Thompson, and also contains 12 amazingly colorful plates by John R. Neill!

The book is in near very good condition; light staining to pastedown, clean spine, some color loss to rear cover as shown. Inside, a little splitting (~1.5″) at base of front hinge, while rear hinge is cracked almost half-way up, but holding well. Clean endpapers (age toning), pencil name on Book Belongs To page, first few endpapers have crease at bottom with very small tear at base of it, otherwise clean pages. All 12 color plates are present and in generally nice condition, though a few are starting to detach along gutter and one appears to have been reattached. Still a nice copy overall.
