Here is a super hard-to-find edition of The Wizard of Oz: The Wizard of Oz Story Book published by London’s Hutchinson Co. in 1940. This large, softcover abridgement of the book has a color graphic from the MGM movie on the front and rear cover, and 64 pages. Oddly, it credits W. W. Denslow for the illustrations (all black and white in this version), but never mentions Oz author L. Frank Baum. This scarce version is listed in Bibliographia Oziana (1988) on page 44, and is shown in The Wizard of Oz Collector’s Treasury (1992) on page 53. Perfect bound, 64 pages, with a stunning cover featuring Glinda and Dorothy from the MGM movie.
This book is in only fair condition only and priced accordingly. Front cover has many edge tears, including a long ~4″ tear that is taped on the back side. Rear cover has the same graphics with some losses at the corner. Colors still quite vibrant. Spine is worn and missing some of the paper. Inside, some erased pencil on first page, missing a corner. Title page has some edge tears. The other pages and illustrations are all intact and in good condition overall-with just age browning and some corner folds. See photos. Tough to find this book in any condition. A placeholder til you find a better copy.
