Description
Here is an unusual copy of The Wizard of Oz book with the hard-to-find dust jacket illustrated by Dick Martin. In 1960, only ten of the Oz books were issued in special dust jackets by Martin, and these were only in production for a few years before being replaced by the “white cover” editions without dust jackets, which are much more common. This book is also interesting in that internal illustrations by Dale Ulrey alternate between blue, yellow, and red throughout. Published by Reilly & Lee, copyright 1956. Jacket lists to Hidden Valley of Oz.
This is one of my favorite Martin jackets–very clever, with the rear cover depicting the same characters as the front, but an exact version of how they would look from behind!
The book plain green cover is very good to condition, with just a little staining at top of front board, interior has tight binding, but blank front endpaper has been torn out, with substantial age toning to title page and rear endpaper, but no writing or tears. Dust jacket is near very good–price clipped but clean with great graphics. Some loss to spine ends and small edge tears. A decent copy of one of the hardest Martin jackets to find!
