Description
Offered here is an early edition of The Wizard of Oz book by L. Frank Baum, from the collection of Oz Club great Fred Meyer. According to the Book Collector’s Guide to Baum from the late 1920’s. Cover shown as Fig 14 of that book. This edition published by Bobbs-Merrill and contains 8 color (as issued) and 8 black and white full page illustrations by W. W. Denslow. With “PRESS OF / BRAUNWORTH & CO. / BOOK MANUFACTURERS / BROOKLYN, N. Y.” at the bottom of copyright page, identifying this as the 2nd printing of the 5th edition.
Condition overall is excellent, onen of the nicest I have seen. The exterior green cloth, spine and rear cover look almost new; the cover pastedown has just a couple very small scuffs. Inside, the hinges are intact and tight, and the original owner has written her name and address twice on the front endpapers. Otherwise the pages and all 8 color plates are super clean without writing, tears or stains. Will come with a written statement of provenance.
