Description
Here is an early edition of The Tin Woodman of Oz book by L Frank Baum, illustrated by John R Neill. Copyright 1918 and published slightly later by Reilly & Lee. This printing circa 1925-1930, with 12 beautiful color plates with captions, with pictorial endpapers, and no list of Oz books in the front. What makes this book especially interesting is that it has two stamps for the “Orsatti Agency” in Hollywood. This was the agency representing Oz star Judy Garland when she signed to star in The Wizard of Oz movie! See the last image for a Orsatti contract (not included) sold in 2015 related to Garland signing for the movie. I wonder if Judy thumbed through this book for inspiration while preparing for her starring role?
This book is in only fair condition as it does have spine damage at the bottom and a little fraying at the top as shown. Also the spine has heavy browning. Inside is quite nice though; the hinges are intact and all 12 color plates are present and in nice clean condition. There is age toning on the endpapers and a later bookplate on the ownership page.
