Here is a nice early edition of “The Scarecrow of Oz”, 9th of the Oz books written by L. Frank Baum. Copyright 1915, this is a Reilly & Lee printing, dating to about 1920 (publisher’s advertisements list to Glinda of Oz.) With 12 captioned color plates by John R. Neill. Black and white decorated endpapers.
Book is in good only condition, with a few flaws. There is some creasing to the color plastedown as shown. Spine has slight spotting to cloth; rear cover looks great. Inside, rear hinge is tight and front hinge is starting to split a little at top; book belongs to page is blank. The title page and frontispiece are printed at a slight angle, and the first gathering is loose; seemingly the book had some issues during production. The 12 color plates are present and in nice condition except there is substantial browning to opposite pages of the plates. 4 pages also have been neatly watercolored, a couple of them shown.
