Description

Here is a terrific set of seven vintage Wizard of Oz books by L Frank Baum and published by Reilly & Lee–in excellent condition. This set was issued in the early 1960’s, and comes with the large Treasury of Oz slipcase. The hardback books are all written by L. Frank Baum and illustrated by Dick Martin based on W W Denslow and John R. Neill, and include The Wizard of Oz, Land of Oz, Road to Oz, Dorothy and the Wizard in Oz, The Scarecrow of Oz, Tin Woodman of Oz, and Magic of Oz. Also, these are all the larger size of this edition–6 3/8″ wide and 9 3/8″ tall boards–and The Wizard has a list of 40 Oz books in the back–characteristics of the earliest printings. See http://hungrytigerpress.blogspot.com/2011/11/white-edition-wednesday-wizard.html.

These books are all in excellent condition, with very light shelf wear to covers and interiors excellent save for a bookplate in Scarecrow of Oz. There is also a red ink smudge on the back of The Land of Oz. The spines, often faded, are still nice and bright. The slipcase, alas, is broken along the top and side, with evidence of an old tape repair, as shown. It will look alright if you display it from the front or side, and I would suggest trying to repair it on the interior with archival tape if you have those skills. Still unusual to find these with the slipcase at all. Oversized shipping required on this item ($10.95 Media Mail), as they are heavy and will require a little extra wrapping TLC.
