Description

Here is a nice first edition, second printing copy of “Tik-tok of Oz”, 8th of the Oz books written by L. Frank Baum. Copyright 1914 and published by Reilly & Britton, with the points given in the Book Collector’s Guide to Baum:

The publisher’s imprint on the spine has double horizontal lines at top and bottom of spine (Binding A). 12 color plates without captions by John R. Neill. Full color map endpapers depicting Oz (front) and surrounding countries (rear). Lost Princess of Oz is last title listed on publisher’s advertisement page.

Condition is very good overall, with some scratches to front pastedown, nice spine, clean rear cover. Inside, the map endpapers are both in excellent condition and the hinges are tight. The frontispiece has been reinserted in the wrong location, opposite the half-title page instead of the title page, and it has a small chip at lower corner. The Ownership page is not filled in. The 12 plates are all present and in very good condition overall except as noted above. The rest of the pages have occasional finger soiling, corner folds, one with a small edge tear. All in all, a quite nice copy of a hard to find early Reilly & Britton title. This is actually the first time I’ve had this printing available, which seems to have only been printed for a very short time between 1917-1918, when the 3rd printing came out.
