Description

Here is a gorgeous early printing of The Road to Oz book (copyright 1909), circa 1918 with an unusual grey-green stamped cover (Binding E, Fig 65 in Book Collector’s Guide to Baum). Fourth printing of the first edition, with Tin Woodman of Oz as the last title listed on back of the ownership page. The title page still retains the Reilly & Britton imprint, but the spine has changed to Reilly & Lee. This dates the book to about 1918. Illustrations in black and whilte (this title never had color plates). This was the last printing of the book with this of cloth style cover, before they went to the pastedown illustration on front!

This book is in very good condition. The cover is quite clean–the cloth color looks nice except for a few orange spots and a little darkening to edges. Corners are still sharp. Inside is very good plus–the hinges and binding are intact, a little tanning to endpapers, Books Belongs To page is blank. Page in great shape; overall quite a nice copy of this unusual Road printing, and will come with a statement of provenance that it’s from Fred’s collection.
