Here is a first edition of “Pirates in Oz”, one of the harder to find and thus more desirable vintage Wizard of Oz books–written by Ruth Plumly Thompson, successor to L. Frank Baum. Copyright 1931 by Reilly & Lee, this is a first printing with 12 beautiful color plates by John R. Neill. Binding format with “Reilly & Lee” on the spine in fancy writing. One of the more difficult Oz firsts to find, since it only had color plates for a few years.
Book is in good plus condition. Cover pastedown is complete but has some scuffing, spine has some discoloration and a little splitting at lower right (see photo). Inside, hinges are intact, endpapers have substantial age toning, Book Belongs to Page is claimed by Arianna Wright. The 12 color plates are present and in very nice condition, as is the text. Overall a decent copy of a hard-to-find Thompson first!
