Description

Here is an unusual copy of The Patchwork Girl of Oz with a hard-to-find dust jacket illustrated by Dick Martin. In 1960, only ten of the Oz books were issued in special dust jackets by Martin, and these were only in production for a few years before being replaced by the “white cover” editions without dust jackets, which are much more common. The distinctive Patchwork jacket cover is described in Appendix 2 of Bibliographia Oziana (1988). Patchwork Girl was written by L. Frank Baum and published by Reilly & Lee, and still bears the original copyright date of 1913. This is a fabulous jacket–sometimes Scraps looks a little creepy, but I really like Dick Martin’s fresh rendition of her.

The book is in near fine condition and the jacket is near very good: The book cloth is excellent; the binding and hinges are tight and the pages are clean except for a name on the Book Belongs To page. The jacket has light chipping to spine ends, price clipped, old tape marks on back. See photos.
