Description
Here is a nice first edition book of The Patchwork Girl of Oz published by Reilly & Britton in 1913. The 7th Wizard of Oz book written by L. Frank Baum, this is the hard-to-find first state of the first printing, with the C on page 35 overlapping the text, and in the green binding state A. (Reference: Bienvenue, Book Collector’s Guide to L. Frank Baum.) Beautiful color illustrated endpapers, and many, many color illustrations throughout the text by the fabulous John R Neill. The Patchwork Girl is a goofy, irreverant character who spouts poetry and is the sometimes love-interest of the Scarecrow.
This is a very good copy. The exterior cloth is mostly clean, the spine art is still clear, a little soiling to rear cover. Inside, the hinges are intact, with a snug binding, and the ownership page is blank. Bookseller’s pencil notes to front endpaper, which also has corner folds, and there are corner folds on and off throughout. Small Christmas sticker on back of frontispiece. The pages are overall very good, with some light soiling throughout, and the color illustrations are fabulous. A collectible first overall.
