Description

Inspired by L. Frank Baum’s love of printing, Oz scholar Michael Riley produces unusual works by L Frank Baum at his own Pamami Press. The earlier Nelebel’s Fairyland, published by the Pamami Press in 1978, was the first separate edition of this story written by L. Frank Baum in 1905.  That is now one of the most rare of the Press’s publications because the majority of the edition was bought by a book dealer and never distributed. When Riley was recently offered access to the original typescript of the story (which differs in some respects from the printed versions), he took the opportunity to publish a new and better edition of this charming fairy tale, just as Baum had originally written it.

This 2013 edition of Nelebel’s Fairyland was printed by hand on a late 19th century Challenge-Gordon letterpress similar to the ones Baum himself used. The text was set in 10-point Century Expanded type and embellished with six antique illustrations printed in two colors. Each copy is bound by hand in cloth with a color-coordinated pictorial dust jacket. Book is small in size, 4 3/8″ by 5 7/8″. Just 60 numbered copies have been made.
