Here is an unusual Oz-related book, as well as one of the hardest to get “Big Little Books”: The Laughing Dragon of Oz. Published in 1934 by Whitman, this Oz tale was written by L. Frank Baum’s son, Frank Baum. Sequels were planned, but Frank actually didn’t have legal rights to continue the series, so this ended up being the only one published under his name. Not many were published, and they are hard to find in decent condition. 1st and only printing. Size of book is only 3.5″ x 4.5″ x 1.5″. 425 pages.
These paper-covered books are fragile and often have substantial wear. This one in better than usual condition. The cover is quite clean, with some scuffing to corners and top edge. The spine has some wear, especially at the base where it connects to rear cover. Inside, both hinges are intact and the binding is tight. “Elmer Brown from Carlton on front endpaper, and small bit of loss at top of rear endpaper. Otherwise the pages are in very nice condition with some wear and age toning as typical with this book.
