Description

Here is a fun book by Oz illustrator W. W. Denslow: Denslow’s Scarecrow and the Tin-man. Copyright 1904 by Denslow, this is a slightly later edition published by M A Donohue & Co The books are essentially the same except the Dillingham version has illustrated endpapers. Includes 6 of Denslow’s picture books in one, besides the title one: Barnyard Circus, Animal Fair, Mother Goose ABC, Simple Simon and Three Little Kittens. A gorgeous profusion of color with Denslow’s trademark seahorse signature on every page. One of the most desirable of Denslow’s books, because of the direct Wizard of Oz connection.

Overall condition good but not very good. The covers have some rubbing and are a little dirty, and the spine has some scratches and fraying at ends, with still legible lettering. Inside, the front hinge is a little loose, but holding, and the rear hinge is cracked with the mull showing. The pages are in generally good condition, with some age toning, occasional small tears and one long one on the Z page. Some offsetting of ink to opposing pages, which is normal for this title. This is a charming book, and Denslow’s cats in Three Little Kittens are my favorite!
