The Wishing Horse of Oz: this is a first edition Wizard of Oz book (1935) from Reilly & Lee with 12 color plates, in the original dust jacket! Wishing Horse is the 29th Oz book, and the last one to be issued with color plates for just a short while, so hard to find in the 1st edition (only one printing). Written by Ruth Plumly Thompson, and illustrated by John R. Neill. 298 pages. The dust jacket is also a first with the last title being Wishing Horse of Oz.
The book condition is near very good overall–clean cloth, great pastedown, clean cloth and endpapers, small ding on spine. Inside, the hinge are lightly cracked but the binding is still tight. The front endpaper has tanning from the jacket flap, the pages are in very good condition except those opposite the color plates, which have foxing as do the plates to a lesser extent. The Book Belongs To page is blank and the 12 color plates are all present. The dust jacket is not price clipped, but does have a large piece missing from top of spine and some edge creasing and wear. With prior owner’s sales receipt laid in. Scarce in jacket.
