Description

Here is a first edition of “Pirates in Oz”, in its original first edition dust jacket! Written by Ruth Plumly Thompson, successor to L. Frank Baum. Copyright 1931 by Reilly & Lee, this is a first printing with 12 beautiful color plates by John R. Neill, and the dust jacket listing titles to Pirates in Oz. With illustrated endpapers. One of the harder Oz 1sts to find–as the color plates were discontinued shortly after in about 1935.

The book is in good condition only–mostly due to the spine being damaged at the top as shown, with some scuffing to the front cover pastedown. Inside, the front hinge is very loose, with the mull showing, and there is a bookplate on the front endpaper. Pencil name on Book Belongs To page, and both endpapers have age toning, heavy to the rear one. All 12 color plates are present and in nice condition except for one which is a little ragged at the bottom. The dust jacket is fair to good–missing large pieces at bottom of spine at top right, not price-clipped, some tape on back side, other edge wear and tear–please see photo.
