Description

Here is a first edition, first printing of “The Hungry Tiger of Oz”. Written by Ruth Plumly Thompson, published by Reilly & Lee in 1926. With 12 color plates by John R. Neill and also illustrated endpapers. Plates coated only on the printed side, as called for in The Book Collector’s Guide to L. Frank Baum. The book also shows undamaged type on p. 21 and p. 252, so also one of the earliest copies off the press. This is one of my favorite Oz books.

The front pastedown is in very nice condition, but the spine and rear cover have some faded spots/staining as shown (the back isn’t as bad as it looks in the image). Inside, the front hinge is still holding but is badly split, with the webbing showing. The rear hinge is solid. Former owner’s names on front endpaper, and also some browning to front and back endpapers. All 12 plates are present; 9 are in excellent condition, two have some water staining at the top (in margin, not affected art), and one has a closed tear at the bottom. Book Belongs To page is blank and text pages overall in quite good condition. Enjoy this hard to find first!
