Description

Here is a complete set of Wizard of Oz books published by Reilly & Lee in 1961, with new illustrations by Dick Martin and an adapted/abridged from the Baum text by Jean Kellogg. This is an iconic set and is from Oz great Fred Meyer’s collection, but alas, is in rough condition for the most part (see below). Includes The Wizard of Oz, The Land of Oz, Dorothy and the Wizard in Oz, and Ozma of Oz–the first 4 Baum books. Oversized, 9″x12″, no dust jacket (as issued), in color laminated pictorial boards with many vivid full-page color illustrations. Very cute rear covers as well–my favorite is the Scarecrow reading a 1st edition Denslow-illustrated Wizard of Oz. Very hard to find, somewhat fragile, and often well loved as is this set.

Dorothy and the Wizard in Oz is in the best condition, with fading to spine and binding a little loose, but holding. The other three books all have text blocks detached from the binding as shown. The text blocks themselves are in good condition with no writing or tears. Ozma and the Wizard also have significant damage to the exterior spines as well, with Ozma being the worst. See photos. For the budget-minded collector, as this set normally retails for about $500 in good condition. Will come with a statement of provenance that it’s from Fred Meyer’s collection.
