Description

Here is an unusual old Oz ephemeral item, “The Wizard of Oz: Play in Three Acts”, one of The Junior League plays, from the story by L. Frank Baum. A small green softcover, copyright Samuel French, 1928, 72 pages. I believe this to be the 1st edition thus, as there seem to be reprints with later dates available online, but this only has the 1928 date, well before the famous MGM movie in 1939! *****Note this next sentence is not true of all editions with 1928 copyright, adjust as needed. Also, this edition was dramatized by Elizabeth Fuller “Goodspeed” and later copies by Elizabeth Fuller “Chapman”, presumably after she married. “By special arrangement with the owner, Mrs. L Frank Baum”, and with much legalese on the back of the copyright page about what can and can’t be done (no music!), royalties to be paid and such. The script appears to be truer to Baum’s book than the early stageplay. (Toto is back as Dorothy’s sidekick!)

The book’s cover is marked “#2” at the top and has a stamped price hike at the base. Inside is clean with light age toning, no writing or tears. Binding is tight. A rare survivor.
