Here is a 1st edition, 1st printing of Cowardly Lion of Oz, copyright 1923 by Reilly & Lee and authored by Ruth Plumly Thompson. This first printing is identified by the non-standard ampersand (&) on the spine. With 12 full-color plates and black and white illustrated endpapers by John R. Neill. (Reference Book Collector’s Guide to L Frank Baum).
This copy is in fair condition overall. Cover pastedown is complete with a little scuffing at lower corner. The spine has a little scuffing and the rear cover has some darkish staining. Inside, both hinges are cracked with some loss of mull (webbing) on front hinge, which is fragile. All 12 color plates are present, but with moisture staining along outer border to varying degrees (not affecting art work). The main text pages are very good condition. Book Belongs To page has owner’s name and Sept 1923 date. A hard to find Thompson first, priced at a steep discount due to condition.
