Description

Here is a nice early copy of “The Scarecrow of Oz”, 9th of the Oz books written by L Frank Baum. First published in 1915 by Reilly & Britton, this is a late 1920s Reilly & Lee edition, still with all 12 beautiful color plates by John R Neill. The dust jacket is present, with a synopsis on the front flap titled “My Best! says the Author”, and blank on the back flap.

This book is in very good condition overall, with a nice complete pastedown and quite nice inside, but some discoloration to edges of spine and rear cover as shown. Inside, the hinges are intact (rear with a small glue repair) and all 12 color plates present and in great condition. Former owner’s name on Book Belongs To page. No other markings, and pages are clean with light age toning.

The dust jacket is fair, being completely split in half along rear spine fold, but held together with the mylar jacket provided. Substantial chipping and loss at ends of spine and along flap folds. Still, hard to find original jackets for the early Oz books with color plates at all.
