Here is an 1899 limited edition of the Rubaiyat of Omar Khayyam, published by the Roycroft Shop/Roycrofters. This #814 of an edition of 920, with Elbert Hubbard’s signature. This book is also special in that both the cover design and the initials and ornaments throughout are by Wizard of Oz illustrator WW Denslow, who worked with the Roycrofters during this period. His seahorse logo is on the cover as well as embedded in some of the initials and charming decorative images. Note the seahorse in the “D” of “Dwell here”. 68 numbered pages, with hand illumined initials on almost every page. With gold-colored silk endpapers.
In very good plus condition, clean and soft leather, hinges intact, pages clean and unmarked. Offsetting of some colored images to opposing pages, as is common with these books. A hard to find example of some of Denslow’s most interesting early work.
